Dual Credit

Academic Dual Credit allows students to take post-secondary courses while still in high school and earn both high school and college credits.

Through College of the Rockies (COTR), students can explore courses in a variety of areas, including:

• Business
• Humanities and Arts
• Science and Health
• Technology and Engineering
• Trades Training

When you successfully complete an eligible COTR course, you will receive four high school credits and three post-secondary credits.

Youth Train in Trades (YTT) allows students to begin technical trades training while still in high school. Students can earn high school credits while completing the classroom portion of Level 1 apprenticeship training.

Programs available through College of the Rockies may include:

• Automotive Service Technician
• Carpenter
• Electrician
• Hairstylist
• Heavy Mechanical
• Industrial Mechanic (Millwright)
• Professional Cook
• Welder

Students who successfully complete a YTT program typically receive credit for the Level 1 technical training component of their apprenticeship. Apprenticeship training includes both technical training and work-based training hours.

Program availability and admission requirements vary. Some programs include an interview process, and reserved seats can fill quickly.

Youth Work in Trades allows students to begin an apprenticeship while still in high school. Students who are working with a qualified employer in a skilled trade can earn high school credits while gaining paid, on-the-job experience.

Students can earn up to 16 high school credits and accumulate up to 480 work-based training hours toward their apprenticeship.

Youth Work in Trades is a great option for students who are already working in a trade or who are interested in combining school with hands-on workplace training.

Students interested in working with children can get a head start on a career in Early Childhood Education (ECE) while still in high school.

Through College of the Rockies, students can take Dual Credit courses that count toward an Early Childhood Education credential while also earning high school credits.

Courses may include:

• CYFS 101 – Inclusive Interpersonal Communications
• ECED 105 – Developing Positive Relationships with Young Children
• ECED 129 – Introduction to Early Childhood Education
• CYFS 116 – Child Growth and Development

These courses provide a foundation for students who wish to continue their studies in Early Childhood Education. They can also provide a pathway toward becoming an Early Childhood Education Assistant (ECEA).
